Against The Current

New Vestures was started to grow and educate a community of fashion designers and entrepreneurs who believe that creative, sustainable design and manufacturing practices will improve lives and better the world. In the effort to bring awareness of all the hard work that these makers, and shakers do, NV would like to introduce a new series called "Against The Current". Here, we'll shine the light on companies, foundations , and specific individuals that are helping to reverse the current of traditional manufacturing practices.

NV would like to introduce you to Rachel Faller. She is the founder and creative director of Tonlé,  an ethical fashion business making comfortable, casual, clothing out of eco-friendly materials. Tonlé was started in 2013 as the re-branded business formally known as KeoK'jay.

Tonlé is an innovative fashion label based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. They design and produce sustainable, wearable clothes that are as original and beautiful as the people who make them. They adhere to principles of transparency, fairness, and waste reduction in everything they do, from the big stuff like wages, down to the little things like the materials in their buttons. Rachel and her team have spent years crafting a zero-waste design process that incorporates leftover scraps of recycled materials into original looks. Their workshops on the ground in Cambodia are structured in small teams, where staff work on a variety of different products, contributing creatively in a positive working environment while earning fair wages and benefits. In a constantly shrinking world, they believe you need the people who make your clothes as much as they need you, and aim to connect people on opposite ends of the supply chain through transparent policies and marketing.
